Experience two of Mauritius’ most iconic marine wildlife encounters in a single morning; Sperm whale and dolphin watching. This private excursion combines sperm whale watching offshore, dolphin encounters along the northwest coast and a guided snorkeling session on a beautiful coral reef.
Departing early from Grand Gaube, you’ll head offshore in search of sperm whales before continuing towards the coast to meet wild dolphins. Breakfast, refreshments, snorkeling equipment, an experienced guide and complimentary underwater videos are all included.
This excursion offers a respectful, unforgettable experience while following Mauritian regulations and prioritising the welfare of marine wildlife.
Departure is at 7:30 AM from Grand Gaube Public Beach.
The excursion usually returns between 11:30 AM and 12:00 PM, depending on the location of the sperm whales and dolphin pods.
Because both species are wild animals that move freely along the coast, the duration and itinerary may vary slightly from one day to another.
Leaving early allows us to reach the observation areas before they become busier, providing a calmer experience for both our guests and the animals.
Your adventure begins offshore, where we search for the majestic sperm whales that live in the deep waters surrounding Mauritius.
Once located, the engines are stopped and you will quietly observe these incredible marine mammals from the boat while your skipper explains their behaviour and respects the required observation distance.
Swimming with sperm whales is strictly prohibited under Mauritian regulations. This part of the excursion is dedicated exclusively to respectful observation from the boat.
After the sperm whale watching, we continue towards the northwest coast to search for spinner and bottlenose dolphins for the dolphin watching.
We first observe the dolphins from the boat before assessing whether conditions allow a respectful swim alongside them.
Your guide accompanies you throughout the experience, ensuring your safety while filming complimentary underwater videos to help you keep unforgettable memories.
Every encounter is unique. Some days the dolphins approach swimmers, while on others they may remain at a distance.
Before returning to Grand Gaube, we stop at a coral reef along the northwest coast for a guided snorkeling session.
Depending on the season and sea conditions, you may observe different coral formations, tropical fish and a variety of marine life. Moray eels, octopuses, turtles, rays and many other reef species may also occasionally be encountered during the snorkeling session.
Whether you are an experienced snorkeler or trying it for the first time, your guide accompanies you in the water to help you enjoy the experience safely and comfortably.
A light breakfast including fresh pastries, coffee and tea is served on board during the excursion.
Drinking water and soft drinks remain available throughout the excursion.
Sperm whales and dolphins are wild animals living freely in their natural environment. Their presence, behaviour and location can never be guaranteed.
Swimming is only permitted with dolphins when conditions allow it to be done safely and respectfully.
Sperm Whale Watching is always carried out from the boat, in accordance with the Tourism Authority regulations.
